Healthy Fast Food Choices

Eating fast food doesn't necessarily mean that you have to eat unhealthy. In fact, many fast food chains offer a variety of healthy fast food choices for you to choose from.

Fast food is very convenient, especially for families on the go. But too much fast food can be bad for both adults and kids. However, choosing healthier foods from the menu can help to alleviate a lot of the guilt often associated with fast food.

McDonald's has great healthy food alternatives for both kids and adults. A Happy Meal no longer consists only of soda, cheeseburger and fries. In fact, you can order a Happy Meal with chicken nuggets, apple dippers and even a milk or juice.

For adults, the choice is also easy. By simply ordering a smaller portion, you can dramatically reduce the calories you would normally take in. Adults can also order a California Cobb Salad with grilled chicken. In order to reduce a portion of the calories and fat, replace the Cobb dressing with a low-fat balsamic vinaigrette.

Wendy's has some great alternatives for a healthier meal. If you normally order a loaded bake potato, consider adding chili, broccoli and chives instead. Not only is this a filling option, it is loaded with fiber.

Try replacing a soda with a glass of low-fat milk or bottled water.

Wendy's also offers some great healthy alternatives to their kid's meals. They offer things like turkey and cheese sandwiches, bowls of yogurt and granola, as well as reduced fat milk.

Adding a salad to any meal is a great healthy option. This is one time that bigger is better. The more greens and veggies you consume, the better it is for you. Instead of loading your salad down with a high calorie salad dressing, opt for a low calorie or fat free dressing. If you are looking to add some meat to your salad, consider adding some grilled chicken instead of fried chicken.

One of the most popular fast food choices is probably take out pizza. What family doesn't like grabbing a pizza on Friday night? Instead of ordering a deep dish pizza, consider ordering a thin crust. You can also ask that they go "light" on the cheese, heavy on the veggies. Consider adding grilled chicken to your next pizza order

Fast food restaurants that allow you to choose what goes on your sandwich, also allow you to make healthy fast food choices. For instance, Subway allows you to choose what type of bread and cheese you want, as well as what type of meat goes on your sandwich.

They also offer low fat dressings that can be added to your sandwich or try you sub with my favorite condiment - spicy mustard. Since you can watch them make your sandwich, you can also control how much they put on it. If you must have mayonnaise on your sandwich, ask for just a tiny dab versus a larger amount. Remember a "little dab will do You".

Eating fast food doesn't necessarily mean you have to eat unhealthy. Today's restaurants are becoming more conscious of making healthy food an option. So the next time you pull up to the drive-thru of your favorite fast food restaurant, be sure to consider all of the healthy fast food choices available.
